About Me

About Me (the extra bits)

"If we listen very carefully we can find our way beyond the noise and hear our true voice; the one that will guide us to become the very best version of ourselves"

Coaching found me after I chose to become alcohol free. Having been a 'middle-lane' drinker for more than 30 years I had had enough of all the space it was taking up in my head. So, I diligently listed my 'why's'  which were about being more present with my kids and having more headspace. I signed up for a 90 day "challenge" on the brilliant OneYearNoBeer (OYNB). I had never even done a dry January; instead I joked that January was way too depressing to deny yourself alcohol. Of course this was just a defence mechanism as I knew I actually couldn't do it. But I kept on coming back to my 'why's',  I watched the daily video's and signed up to the Facebook group. Days ticked by (slowly at first) and then 90 days turned into a year.  That is when I realised that being alcohol free is just that, freedom. It  is the gift that keeps on giving. This was the start of a complete transformation for me, opening up the world of self exploration, self-awareness and a growing sense of self-belief. If I could do this I could do anything and I believe that for every single one of us.

I have a deep belief that we know what is right for us but that our tiny voice of truth gets drowned out by all of the noise; the internal unhelpful stories we tell ourselves and our limiting beliefs as well as the external well-meaning advice, opinions and expectations of other people.

As a mum: I am blessed with two daughters, one who struggles with anxiety exacerbated by ADHD, ASC and OCD. In late 2022 she became unable to attend school and strengthened by a growing self belief I took the decision to take 5 months out of work. I was full of fear and guilt but I listened to my own small voice and knew without a doubt that I had done the right thing. My friends and colleagues were beyond supportive. Being a parent of a child with complex special needs can be isolating and is a continuing battle with those who should meet her needs as any other child but as a result of these challenges we have a stronger bond, I understand her more deeply (and myself) and we are slowly moving forward.

My eldest came into the world easily. When we decided to have a second child it wasn't quite the same. Multiple miscarriages later we welcomed our little miracle into the world after a painful battle to get answers. Both of my girls were born at home and I breastfed the second until she was 3.  As you might imagine I received alot of 'helpful' advice and opinion on my choices. Oh and I was 43 when I had my second girl. A whole world of noise around that!

As a professional woman (and primary earner):

I have worked at GSK and its legacy companies for 28 years. I started as a bench scientist and took a circuitous path through to where I am now, a Senior Director growing and nurturing strategic partnerships with leading UK universities.

In this 28 years I have never taken a 'pre-existing' role. I have seen gaps and needs and created roles to meet those needs. I look back and see that I have been brave and bold and sought to utilise my strengths. I have weathered being referred to as 'the assistant', being told to 'man up'. I have often been the only woman in the room fighting with every fibre of my being not to be the one who offered to get the refreshments or take the minutes.

I love, love, love to work with women who experience any and all challenges in the workplace be those internally or externally.

I have been married for nearly 20 years. I am the primary earner in our family. I have two children and have taken two year-long maternity leaves. I have moved from full to part-time roles, I have fought and (largely!) maintained my boundaries.

If any of these experiences resonate, contact me. I would LOVE to work with you as a coach and support you to define what you want you work life to look like; to realise that YOU have the power to ask for what you want and GET it.
